What I did last weekend

Hello!

While last weekend’s warm and wet may have brought disappointment to many, the weekend exceeded expectations for me.

I spent two full days in my basement at DirtCon, a virtual conference dedicated to flower farming! Two days, both from 7:45am until 8pm, pretty much nonstop. Is there really that much to talk about related to profitable flower farming? The answer: absolutely yes!

Mindset, marketing, mulch. Seeds, soil, successions. Bulbs and budgets (agrrr, again!) All of it grounded (haha) in flower farming. No mental gymnastics trying to translate lessons from corn maze efficiency or kohlrabi rotations into my blooming business. This was wisdom directly from the best in the field (teehee). Yes, there are stars in flower farming, and I was full-on Fan Girl.

Hundreds of growers attended, and I met some of them in breakout chats. It’s amazing how quickly flower farmers can dive into the nitty-gritty (oh dear, another pun) of sandbags, spreadsheets, and bouquet sleeves.

I learned a lot. New ideas to try and solid foundations reinforced. (Pat on my own back: I’m already doing some things really well!)

I also played DirtCon BINGO and won with this square: “Set a goal outside your comfort zone.” Hmmm… Selfies! Here we go. Fear of embarrassment, be banished.

Let there be flowers!
